Our Story · Since 2015
Howdy from S&S Fencing — a family-owned, woman-owned, and woman-operated fencing company based in Cox's Creek, KY, serving Kentucky and Southern Indiana since 2015. We still answer the phone ourselves.
Meet the Owners
S&S Fencing was founded in 2015 by husband-and-wife team Shawn and Shelby Fick. Long before there were multiple crews, specialized equipment, and large commercial projects, there were just two people willing to work hard and do whatever it took to build a business from the ground up.
The company started with Shawn and Shelby mowing local farms throughout Nelson and Bullitt Counties. As relationships were built and trust was earned, customers began asking for new fence installations, fence painting, and other farm maintenance projects. What started as a small side business quickly grew into a passion and a livelihood.
For years, Shawn and Shelby worked side by side in the field, building fences themselves with limited equipment and an unwavering commitment to quality. They worked through Kentucky heat, winter snow, rain, mud, and long days — often handling every aspect of the business themselves, from estimating jobs and answering phone calls to digging post holes and installing fence. Every customer, every project, and every dollar earned was a direct result of their hard work, determination, and refusal to quit.
Those early years taught lessons that still guide the company today: show up when you say you will, do the job right, treat customers honestly, and stand behind your work. Through those values, S&S Fencing grew one project at a time into a trusted contractor serving agricultural, commercial, and industrial clients throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
Today, S&S Fencing operates multiple full-time crews and handles projects ranging from farm fencing and livestock enclosures to large-scale commercial and industrial installations. While the company has grown significantly, Shawn and Shelby remain actively involved in the business every day. Shawn continues to oversee work in the field alongside our crews, while Shelby now oversees customer service, scheduling, operations, and project management. As they prepare to welcome twins in 2026, Shelby is transitioning into a larger office role while continuing to help lead the company she and Shawn built together.
At S&S Fencing, we're proud of where we started and grateful for every customer who has trusted us along the way. Our story is proof that hard work, integrity, and dedication still matter.
Credentials & Memberships: Better Business Bureau Accredited — Mt. Washington, KY. Blue Book Network ProView Listed (#1899630). Fully insured — general liability and Workers' Compensation, Certificate of Insurance available on request.
Our Equipment: We run our own skid steers, post drivers, augers, and trailers — which means we don't subcontract, we don't pass through equipment markups, and we can handle ground conditions other crews can't. Difficult terrain, rocky soil, steep grade, wet pasture — we've fenced it.
How We Work
Shawn or Shelby walks every job before we quote it. No paper estimates, no guessing.
We tell you what something costs and what it doesn't. No surprises after the fact.
We use materials that last. Cheaper materials cost more in five years.
We clean up after ourselves. The site looks better when we leave than when we got there.
Day, night, weekend, holiday — if the fence is down, you can reach us.
Shawn runs the field. Shelby runs the office. The phone reaches a decision-maker — every time.
