The Cattle Farmer's Perimeter Solution
Barbed wire fencing is the most economical permanent fence option for large-acreage cattle operations and rural property boundaries across Kentucky. S&S Fencing has been installing barbed wire across Kentucky farm country since 2015 — from small back-40 perimeter runs to multi-mile cattle operations. Barbed Wire Options & Configurations
We install both 2-point and 4-point barbed wire in 3, 4, and 5-strand configurations. Three-strand is the minimum for cattle; four-strand is the standard most Kentucky farms use; five-strand provides maximum containment for bulls or property-line situations where you want zero ambiguity. Wire spacing is set to the herd — calf-tight at the bottom for cow/calf operations, wider for stocker yearlings.
Posts, Corners & H-Braces
The fence is only as good as its corners. Every install includes properly built H-brace assemblies at corners, gates, and grade changes — diagonal brace wire, twitch sticks, the works. We use T-posts on the runs and treated wood posts at corners, gates, and pull points. For high-clay Kentucky soil we typically drive posts with our hydraulic driver; in rocky ground we auger and concrete-set. Either way, the fence holds.
Important: Never Use Near Horses
Barbed wire should never be used in or near horse pastures. Horses can suffer severe laceration injuries on barbed wire — chest, shoulder, leg, and face wounds that often require veterinary care and can end a riding career. For equine properties we install Kentucky board fencing, smooth high-tensile wire, or a board-and-woven-wire combination instead. Talk to us before you build — we'll steer you to the right product.
Service Area & Pricing
Barbed wire runs $2–$5 per linear foot installed in Kentuckiana — terrain, post spacing, and gate count drive the final number. We work throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana, from Nelson and Bullitt County cattle country out to Hardin, Larue, Washington, and beyond. Call 502-468-1209.
