Split-rail fence has defined the Kentucky landscape for two centuries. Whether you're outlining a horse-country driveway, framing a country yard, or marking a property line without blocking the view, a well-set split-rail fence is timeless. S&S Fencing installs cedar, locust, and pressure-treated split-rail across Louisville, Shelby County, Oldham County, Bullitt County, and into the central-Kentucky bluegrass. 2-Rail Split Cedar: Roughly 36" tall. The most common driveway and yard-edge look. Two rails, mortised through split posts.
3-Rail Split Cedar or Locust: Roughly 48" tall. Great for horse-property frontage, equestrian driveways, and longer property lines.
Post-and-Rail (Milled): A cleaner cousin to split-rail. Uniform milled rails on face-mounted posts. Choose this when you want a tidier, more architectural look.
Split-Rail with Mesh Backing: Add black welded-wire or vinyl-coated mesh on the inside to contain dogs, deer, or small livestock without losing the rustic curb appeal.
Split-rail is unforgiving when it's set wrong — uneven posts, sagging rails, or rails set too low all show from 100 yards away. Our crews walk every line, set posts plumb, and step rails down sloped terrain so the fence reads clean and intentional. We can also tie split-rail into custom stone columns or welcoming gate entrances for a finished property look.
From Prospect to La Grange, from Anchorage to Crestwood, from Mt. Washington to Shelbyville and out to Lexington horse country — we install split-rail wherever the look fits. Call 502-468-1209 or book a free on-site walk.
