Augering: Clean bored holes for concrete-set posts. Best for loose, sandy, or rocky soils where driving would shatter posts or wander off-line. Available for 4x4 through 8x8 square posts and round cedar up to 6". Standard depths are 24"–42" depending on post size, fence height, and frost line.
Driving: A hydraulic driver pounds posts directly into the ground. Best for Kentucky clay soil where bored holes collapse on you. Driving is faster and more economical for long agricultural runs of round posts and T-posts — we can set a mile of T-posts in a day where augering would take a week.
Two-person auger rentals run $80–$120/day, but they bind in roots, cut out in clay, and leave you with crooked, mis-spaced holes. Our skid-steer-mounted auger and hydraulic driver do in two hours what a rental crew does in two days — and the posts come out straight, plumb, and on-line. For agricultural and commercial runs, the labor savings alone usually exceed the cost.
Square: 4x4, 6x6, 8x8 in treated pine or cedar. Round cedar: 4", 5", 6". Steel T-posts and U-posts for ag work. Steel I-posts and pipe posts for commercial and industrial. Whatever your project needs — bring us the spec, we'll set them.
